Default honda obd code reader

I have a problem with the SRS AIRBAG red light is on. The check engine light has been on for some time now. This was reset by a mechanic using an obd code reader and has since resurfaced. If the battery is disconnected and reconnected the check engine light goes out for a little while but the SRS AIRBAG red light comes on as soon as the car is started. The passenger seat was totally down in the resting position several times could this have affected the problem. It is on a 1998 Accord 6cyl Ex coupe with 231,500 miles on it and the car runs great on the original engine, transmission, and exhaust. 60,000 miles ago it was suggested I change the catalytic converter but it was expensive and the car ran great and still does with loads of power to spare. My wife says that the 1998 is faster than the 2003 Honda Accord Coupe 6cyl Ex which supposed to have more power. The newer one is smoother but equally powerful. Will the scanner eliminate the problem? Should I disconnect the battery for a day or a couple of hours with that help?
