Default Budgetmobile=Project Rice (56k take a nap)

Well, to begin, I have been on this site for a while... just to browse references... I have been on other sites for a while and have soaked up a fair amount of knowledge, and along the way learned the do's and dont's the easy and hard ways. I have built motors for almost all of my vehicles, since most of them have come into my posession non-running.

To give a brief background on "Project Rice". It all started when I was contacted by a user from D-Seires that I knew a whle back. Acquaintances really. Besides the point, about a year after I was "banned for quoting mod's in my sig" I get this random message from a guy named Vu. He states he remembers me from the site, and wanted to know if I would buy a car... basically put he bought it for a friend, the friend ended up not wanting it, so he was left with a car. So he drove it without ever looking under the hood, untill it poped. He sold the ECU, and a few months he contacted me.

I started to save; then I lost my apartment... So I had to rough it.. so a few months into it, I realized I wasn't able to save any $$$ for the car so I called him up and said I wouldn't be able to buy the car. He then said "Come pick it up, I will sign it over... just pay me later... whenever really.. I don't care. Seriously!" I was stunned. A few weeks later I had a place I could store it for one month only, so I picked it up and he signed it over... barely met the guy for the first time and he's giving me a car.

Anyways, I was deciding wether to part and cut it up or fix it... so I made myself wait untill I dropped a motor in it. So, I started looking. Found a motor on craigslist about 120 miles away, for $50... complete. After a few hours driving, I was back home, $50 poorer with a dirty D15B8 with 80,000 miles on it.

Once the head came off it, my hopes soared. It was clean, and you could still see the cross-hatch on the cylinder walls. Awesome... a decent block. So I went to the machine shop in town and asked if he had any old heads customers nev er picked up/paid for... he pointed at the top shelf, and for $100, I got a D15B7 head that had $360 in machine work done to it. not to mention a new cam, rockers and whole valvetrain.

So, with a pre-bought Z6 gasket kit, I built the motor. Got a valvecover gasket, and presto! A basically new motor for under $200. Once the motor was in, I then knew I would keep the car and sell my 92 EG8 4D.

So... after slowly acquiring a few peices and I can't stress this part enough "hacked together a turbo kit". Mind you this project started and will continue to be the "Project Ricemobile" bought and paid for by ebay and craigslist, and as budget and HMT status as possible. Lots were for temporary laughs and ideas, and alot was for long-term use.

I bought a set of BLOX rear LCA's, $100. E-bay $100 shipped SSAC-type (not SSAC) tubular manifold, pick 'n pull T3 .42/.48 fron a volvo, BOV from a volvo, piping from Home-Cheepo then later hacked from a jetta we parted out, FMIC from the jetta, Ostrich, Many chipped ECU's, Homebrew JAW WB02, new windshield.... blah blah blah...

Here are all the pics. I will try and get them all in order of earliest to latest... so you can see the progressions. Things like the underglow tubes were purely for a laugh.

Look at the head that came off the $50 D15B8!!!
