My dad has had a vw touareg v8 for the last 3 years (the worst model according to this chart) and has had no problems.
Therefore fuck what everybody thinks and do what you want.
This is the equivalent of "Well, I don't have HIV so no one else does either." Not all VWs are going to give you problems, but a much higher percentage compared to Honda or Toyota will have issues.
