FYI i broke off my handle somehow (i think it was just the FL heat) and replaced the handle with a ball-pull (the kind you'd see used to hold a tarp to a frame). it works real well and has no chance of ever breaking as i drilled through the alloy part of the release handle

my handle cracked off a few months ago and i have been dreading taking it to get fixed since you cant replace just the lever and have to rewire the entire cable
now i just need to find a decent handle to put on that fits nicely and looks stock
at least it still opens though, just need some pliers to get a grip
but soon it will be as good as new
