It's not real rare for the oil pressure switch to go bad. But if you don't have a pressure gauge to verify that, you have to take your chances about assuming the actual oil pressure is OK.

Bad oil pump isn't the only reason for pressure to be low. Sometimes the oil pickup screen in the pan gets obstructed.
