when the NFL's regular season ends, the best teams make it into the playoffs. They're seeded appropriately. Then the standings are reversed, and that's how you get your draft order.
When it's your turn to pick, you weigh your needs vs the talent available. The higher the pick, the more money is involved.
Picks are so valuable that Oakland gave up Randy Moss for the Patriots' 4th round selection, number 1XX overall.
