Sure thing, it's the timing belt.
I'm pretty sure the SOHC motors are "interference motors", in that the valves will contact the pistons and then bend if the timing belt snaps.
That is why a timing belt job is PREVENTATIVE maintenance.

This is a most common problem with people, as they only fix things when they break. Problem is if you don't get the timing belt replaced at a regular interval, it can break and then basically ruin the motor, cause it will cost lots of $$$$ to fix the bent valves.
Most people will just buy a new motor/head rather than get the ruined one fixed...

And you ALWAYS replace the tensioner and water pump when doing a timing belt job.
