Default converting laptop to linux

i have an old IBM thinkpad laptop, the model is 390e

it has like 128mb ram, 3.2 gig hard drive (i happen to have spare hard drive, too...)

its a dog slow 98 machine that i dont really even use anymore but was wondering if it would be worth my while to convert to linux for basic computing stuff, email browsing etc...

it has seen better days, the hinges are weak and the batteries are shot but i could hook it up to a monitor and use a different monitor, mouse, keyboard.... so basicly the only use i would expect from it would be to handle the computing aspects...
