There is a compression ring on the end that will compress when sliding into the tranny, but will expand once seated inside the tranny, holding the axle shaft in place.

I've removed and re-installed mine at least 10 times, and I never had to use 150lbs of force... More like 20-30lbs for both removal and installation...
