Why would SUV sales possibly increase with rising gas prices? Use common sense please.

2- you are not counting the incentive plan given to the people to buy more fuel effecient care. you are only looking at the additionnal taxe and not the 2000$ given to the hybrid buyers out there.
No, I'm not. So let's say everyone that would have bought an SUV buys a hybrid...how much greenhouse gases are we saving? Not very much dude. Maybe 50% more than the amount I estimated if a hybrid is 50% more efficient, which it's really not.

3- you are not taking in consideration the high consumption cars such as Mini vans, sports car, luxury V12 cars ect...
that's true, but likely the tax won't be very high (if at all) on minivans because they're a necessity for many people. also, very few sports cars and luxury cars are sold.

Which bring me to my next question do we already know what cars will be taxed? what is the limit before a car gets taxed for next year?
no, i was just estimating the effect of replacing all SUVs with cars, which is a crazy and unrealistic notion. it's a ""best case"" scenario, and it still doesn't really do much.
