i guess a good test would be to take your rear windows out (like in coupes) and weld sheet metal there and see what it does for rigidity
No the windows are designed with ridgidity in mind. the main thing is the structure of the actual door and door frame if there is one. If it is a framelss window then reinforcements are made in the roof line to account for that. with a convertible there is reinforced substructure and cross bracing to make up for the roof coming off.
