Default Inaudible vtec

OK i was driving my car the other day to work and noticed a weird noise and vibration when i left of the accelerator but it stopped when i accelerated or pressed the clutch or took out of gear. So iwas thinking great my tranny is going out or some crap. So i go to work and come back and hop in the pimp mobile aka em1 and crank it up and the noise starts right away and i wasnt in gear...well it now sounded more like it was coming from under the car....i hoped out and listened to it and it sounded as though it was coming from the cat. Well i had gutted my cat a couple months ago about 3/4 out...so i figured the rest had come loose or something. I get home... take off the cat and sure enough some of the crap comes out the cat so i gutted it the rest of the way and now pretty much have a test pipe. I reinstall it and crank it up....no CEL and the exhuast sounds a little louder but not much. I take it for a test drive and the car pulls even harder...even in the upper rpms. In fact shifting from 1st to 2nd and all the way to 60mph it almost feels like the tires wanna break loose but i hear NO VTEC!! im like what the crap! so i pull over check the vtec solenoid wires and stuff and its all hooked up and its up to operating temp and i checked oil level and it was good. So i call a couple friends and look for ideas....the best they could come up with is to take off the positive battery termianl and let it sit so the ECU can reset. I did that and still no diff......but then i accelerated about 1/2 throttle and watched the rpms and at 5500rpms sure enough i can feel and tell the vtec is engaging and working...which made sense cuz it was pulling even harder in the upper rpms after i gutted it. Now i couldnt understand why it was no longer audible...the filter was on good and the coupling to the intake was tight so i ddnt get it. Well the best me and a friend could come up with is because there is even less back pressure than thats why you cant hear no only the vtec change over but the CAI as well. Anyways i have never heard of this and was curious if any one else have heard or experienced this? Now i can slightly hear the change over but the CAI is still pretty much inaudible. Well thanks in advanced! :irock:
