My family loves eggnog. But the store bought stuff isn't all that great, so I make a large batch every year. I thought I'd share the recipe with you guys.
Ingredients
1/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
4 cups milk
1/3 t spoon salt
3 table spoons sugar
Nutmeg
1 t spoon rum flavoring or rum to taste
Separate egg yolks from the whites. Add 1/3 cup sugar and 1/3t salt to the yolks. Beat until it makes a custard. Stir into milk and place over medium heat. Stir until the mixture "coats the spoon" since I don't know what the heck that means I go by "until it's frothy and smells like eggnog". Remove from heat and let cool. It's very important that you let it cool completely, adding the whites too soon will make them clump. Nobody likes chunky eggnog. Beat the whites and 3T sugar until foamy. Add whites and rum to the cooled nog. Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
Merry Christmas!
