I agree. As a rule, unless they asked for the gift card, they seem REALLY impersonal.

Call her mother, sister or best friend or whoever and ask them what she's been hinting at or what might be a nice gift idea for her. They'd be tickled that you'd want to make such a thoughtful effort to "get it right". Or email them, its easier. It kinda depends on if you live with her too. If you do, then you can get something your house/apt needs or something soft and fluffy. if you're not cohabitating, refer back to the 1st idea.
