There was a 5th gen Accord that was for sale on eBay a couple years ago that had a Chevy 350 swapped into it with a RWD conversion, subfloor reinforced with new rails installed and a full internal cage for extra support.
Is it impossible? no
Is it common practice? no
I think the reason you may catch shit is because to a lot of people out here modding their car involves picking an item off the shelf and putting it in or on their car. I have a bit more open mind than some possibly because of the amount of time I have spent around a wide variety of vehicles in various forms of bastardization.
I will say this though...your cost estimate of $1200 is extremely conservative, I am almost positive that to do this is going to run a final bill closer to $10k and I also think that from reading your plan of action you are not quite as prepared to go into this as you think.
do a shit load of research into the design of this thing including torsional ridgidity issues, suspension (notably front end) issues and a realistic traction setup for the rear. there is more but I got shit to do and I am not going to handhold anyone through this kind of research.
I once drove a smallblock powered Civic 1/8 of a mile down a road before I shut it down and walked back telling the guy he can kick rocks if he wants me on the 1/4 mile driving the thing.
