Not to beat a dead horse... but an engine is an engine. If you doubt you can carry out a rebuild, you probably can't without some help from someone who can rebuild it.

Best bet would be to start with a running engine to swap into it so you have a car rather than a lawn ornament, and tear the old engine down to see if it's even worth trying to salvage. Again, if you're not sure what to look for, get some help from someone who does.

If you don't have anyone you can go to for help, then pass on the car, it will be more headache than it's worth for you.
