Check the task manager, organize by amount of memory used.

See what resource hog's you can eliminate.

Mabye run Adaware, or a like program. Remove all those taskbar programs you can, keep them from loading when windows starts.

start -> run:
regedit: hkeylocalmachine\software\microsoft\windows\curren tversion\run
msconfig: - Startup tab

Delete all you can out of there. Re-start and tell me what happens.
