3 tabs, the + goes to the battery. The one that looks like a messed up tree connects to the chassis. Then the other one (normally the center, and has a picture of a sun on it) goes from the switch to the lights. You can do it wrong and it will work, but like you have, it blows the fuse. Doing it like I said should also make the switch glow when on....
