it comes in handy when you use applications where you need to design and have all your pallettes and tools on one screen, and your canvas on the other. ..or if you want to run multiple applications without crowding them on one screen.
True Story. At work I've usually got lots of applicators running, monitoring a server, and using remote desktop or other remote utilities. They are definitely put to use.
