My thoughts: Absolutely pointless.
There are plenty of aftermarket braking solutions for the USDM 4-lug hub format... and if you want an oversized rim width, H&R sells hub spacers.
With extended length wheel studs and hub spacers, you can achieve the correct offset so that larger rims widths will fit.
However, be wary of going too wide.
For a standard road car, 7" wide rims and 205 width tires are plenty.
If you're building a carpet queen (aka show car), I can understand the "need" for a wider rim... but otherwise, I simply wouldn't bother.
