If the timing marks are not aligning right, you need to take it apart and refit the tming belt. You will suffer some power loss from the cams being out-of-time.

You did adjust the valves to the proper spec, right? I've seen people try to adjust to millimeter specs with inch feelers, leaving a large gap that will tick very loudly.

A little valvetrain ticking is normal, older injectors also tick loudly.
