hi guys,
has any one of you 98-99 accord owners experienced your factory security system does not arm (only locks all doors but no sound off for confirmation when button pressed the 2nd time) and the alarm goes off by itself when all doors locked and nothing happened to the car?
i have done some research on NHTSA website for recalls or service bulletins and only got summarized pieces of information for 98-99 accords, and some odysseys, pilots, stated "FACTORY SECURITY SYSTEM DOESN'T ARM."
and later on i found 2 articles of Honda Export Service Bulletin (01-003, 99-023) .
- [01-003] says "if the alarm sounded for more than 30 seconds (up to 2 mins) then it is not caused by the remote transmitter case flexing. Check for other security system problems. Refer to page 22-206 of the 1998-2001 service manual".
- [99-023] says "if the security system sounds when the doors are locked and the vehicle has not been disturbed, the repair procedure in this service bulletin will not fix the vehicle"
i have checked with couple of dealers beforehand, they treated me like an idiot and wanted me to make an appointment to spend 1 hour labor on diagnostics, then they'll check if there's a recall or service bulletin regarding the problem, which sounds ridiculous. if the problem was already posted on service bulletin and government website, they could have just use couple of minutes to retrieve all the information of this problem from honda network, right?
so has anyone done such repair at a dealer? or does anyone have other pieces of information regarding this issue that could share with me?
thanks in advance!
