its no different than anyone who has every dropped a big block into a car or truck designed for a smaller motor or a vehicle that was never equipped with asuch a large motor.
when u look at the availability of aftermarket parts for say the k20 vs the d17 that comes in the standard 02 civic and look at difference in prices of said parts you can understand. i do have an 02 civic and i have already looked into the k20 swap. why? because yes it may be quite expensive but its an easy way to readily and safely boost your baseline numbers as well as adding a component to your car that is heavily supported in the aftermarket. its just the next step in improving upon factory design, it really is no different than adding an intake or a turbo or a full suspension, somethign the factory didnt do because of the direction they wanted to take that car
