The simple trick is bolting your wheel back on and driving to the dealership if you don't know what to do. If you did know "what the fuck you were doing" you'd know what to do, wouldn't you? You'll probably need a lot of heat, a lot of torque, and a lot more common sense than you seem to have.

And the purpose of them is to hold the rotor on when the wheel is off, otherwise it just falls off.
