From a story/plot perspective, if he didn't have the limp, he would be too elevated above the other characters. Making him a gimp makes him human, brings him down a notch.
Yea, it was better to have him limp. His friend said he lied to him so he wouldnt feel like he was God. House said, God doesnt limp.
