While I think a Fit hybrid is an excellent idea, it seems highly unlikely that they would just drop in the Insight drivetrain wholesale - even if it is a "proven powertrain". That's a 7 year old engine, and hybrid technology has advanced considerably in that time. At the very least, I would expect a massively upgraded and updated Insight powertrain, if not (as seems more likely to me) a re-tuned version of the current 1.5 liter with Honda's hybrid "sandwich" incorporated. The Insight only makes 73 horspower compared to the Fit's "adequate" 109 horsepower - I don't think Americans would be happy about 14-second 0-60 times if they just dropped in the Insight motor.
