Since I'm still bouncing back n' forth between LA & NorCal, I went with the BFGoodrich g-Force Traction Z this January.
Despite using a high-silica rubber with a high treadwear rating, they're a damn good tire. I would certainly recommend them for a DD that sees the occasional canyon run.
When I bought mine, they had just hit the market.
I paid $95 each for a set of 205/45R16.
