the b18b1 (RS, LS, GS/SE) is "bigger" than the b18c1 (GS-R).

b18b1 (RS, LS, GS/SE):
1834 cc
142 hp (obd1)
140 hp (obd2)
redline: 6800

b18c1 (GS-R):
1797 cc
170hp
redline: 8000


the b18b1 has slightly more torque on the low end. the b18c1 has a better top end (VTEC) and can stay up there for longer (higher redline). that, along with shorter gearing, is what allows the GS-R to outperform the RS, LS, GS/SE.

so, to answer the original question, the GS (or SE) is the same exact thing as the GS-R, except for the engine, tranny, and some minor suspension differences.
