I usually follow that procedure when I'm changing a fuel filter or rail or the like. Since you already have the back seat out and access to the electrical plug going into the pump, you can just pull that plug and start the motor and run it till it dies to help lessen the amount of fuel that spills out of the lines when you remove them.
