The surface on the disc can wear, but the fingers that apply the clamping force of the pressure plate can wear as well. Only replacing one or the other will turn out to be a temporary fix. If you want to sell the car "with a new clutch" ... replace the whole clutch assembly.
Besides, there is nothing worse than being cheap and then having to do the job twice to get it right.
