if you car didn't have vtec before, you're goign to need to convert it to work.... find your vtec solenoid, a circular thing behind the distributor usually, with one wire coming off of it. Route this wire to your ecu and connect it to the vtec pin... you're going to need to find the pinout for your ecu, cuz im not sure which one you are using...
