dang THREE GRAND for a tranny conversion? I can get you a freaking GSR swap with tranny/ecu/shift linkage/wiring harness for 3100. You should be able to find a good 5th/6th gen EX tranny for under 300 bucks. I've blown and i'm on my 3rd, each time i paid around 150 for another.
