98 V6 Noise in reverse
First off, I have a dreaded V6 tranny in my 98 2dr(106k miles). The tranny was replaced at 65k, shortly before I got the car.
When I'm backing up, when i touch the brake, I get a rather loud creak I guess is the word, but it's not sustained, very short. I can just barely tap the brake, or press fairly hard. I'm not sure if it's the tranny or if it's something suspension related. I have had the front sway bar links replaced, as well as the lower ball joints(both around 83k miles).
I never noticed this going forward. The wheels can be straight or turned when backing up. Shifting is as smooth as when I got the car, it doesn't drop gears, shift hard, nothing. There is no abnormally loud sound when I shift into reverse, of course I hear some mechanical noise, but that is normal. I'm up for a tranny fluid change soon(been about 20k miles), I track that very closly, since that's one of the only things you can do with these poorly-built transmissions for the V6's.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
