I removed the resonator chamber from my OEM air box, then I installed a K&N oem replacement filter.

Why would anyone do this.

Well I hade an AEM CAI and an AEM short ram. Both used 2.5" tubing, the OEM intake tube is 2.5" too.

I was able to fit the conical AEM filter on the end of my OEM intake tube, I found that seat of the pants dyno registered this as the same as my AEM intake complete.

I also had issue with my AEM intakes wearing out, well I may not be typical; but after 6.5 years of use my AEM intake started to wear out rubber bushings, and I split a bypass valve in half.

Removing the resonator from the OEM air box effectively means you get to suck colder air (unrestricted) from below the fender well. 2nd the OEM intake tube is no worse then the AEM 2.5" interms of flow. If you do the math the surface area of the OEM intake is not much better then the AEM conical filter.

So with the OEM resonator removed we get cold air from the fender well like the AEM or other 3rd party intake. We get the same size intake tubing, and we get a free flowing filter with the aftermarket drop in style. Plus we get OEM reliability in terms of build quality over 3rd party. And as a bonus removing the resonator makes the car sound just like an aftermarket intake.

Makes me wonder why everyones spending hundreds on 3rd party intakes?
