check the spark plugs and wires. look carefully around the wires while the car is on to see if any wires have a hole in them. You'll hear a slight clicking as electricity reaches from the wire and hits something else. I had this happen to me once, but I dunno if this is what your deal is. The CE light would be on if the wires or plugs were becoming a relevant problem.
