my roommate had just about the most thorougly and drastically modified saab spg on the planet, and he just kept all the stock parts in the basement. When he was ready to move on, he brought everything back to stock and actually sold it for the same price he bought it for (like 4 years and lots of miles later). Old saabs are kinda a niche market, but still, most people wont be able to tell if you bring everything back to stock and the car still runs fine.
I know a friend that turbo'd a leased 6th gen accord, he beat on it real bad, converted it back to stock, and they took it back no problem. I felt bad for the person that bought that thrashed accord. if they only knew.
