Default Grinding into 3rd?

Ok Civic tranny gurus.

I purchased my car from a guy who probably didn't know how to take care his car. So I'm wondering if you guys can figure it out.

1st - shifter has lots of left and right play when in gear. What will fix that?

2nd - tranny grinds going into 3rd when I'm shifting normally. BUt will not grind when just nudging it slowly into gear (letting it just slide into gear). The clutch was replaced 30,000 miles ago so I'm guessing they used some crap tranny fluid. Will changing that help prevent the grind into 3rd? Could it be something else?

3rd - what markings and where can I check to make sure I have the right tranny for my 1993 Civic Si? Seems to have no UMFPH when I'm in 5th gear going 65mph.

4th - what is involved in doing an engine rebuild on my 1993 Civic Si? Could you list the parts? I'm going to try to do this over the winter.

Many thanks
