When you apply at a dealership, I think it's best to talk with the service manager. Talk about how you don't have any work experience in the field but that you do have experience in school and would like to apply it to the field. Thats the only way to get yourself noticed, imo. Thats what I did with my first job working at a Honda dealership.

Also you can show like your grades in your classes and stuff. Bring anything that will help you get your foot in the door.
I talked to the service manager for a good 10 minutes and then I pretty much got the job.

No formal interview at all.
