It's because the Republicans don't have any good issues to run on in this upcoming election. They already used up the gay marriage "issue" in 2004 so they're flailing around looking for a new distraction. I suspect Karl Rove's "cut and run" campaign is the fallback plan if they don't find anything else.
The "Cut & Run" plan is the one being trumpeted by Kerry, Pelosi, Murtha, Reid, Kennedy, (insert liberal here). That is not a strategy for victory, that is a strategy for defeat. If that is the Democrat's election plan and issue then they are destined to loose.
