The car does not need both of the fans to work in order to stay cool. Trust me. I JUST (2 weeks ago) had a problem very simliar to this. Both my thermostat and the larger radiator fan were shot. I replaced the thermostat without replacing the fan motor and the car stopped over heating. I had the radiator fan motor replaced a week later.

I had to return a thermostat becuase it was wayyy too small. They had to special order mine from honda. it was like 40 bucks.
