the key is to strike a balance, flow vs. velocity, u have alot of things to think about when porting heads, and it dont matter what honda head u use, the vtec heads are flow tested higher than non vtec heads, i'd rather use a non vtec head u got more room for port configuration, which includes ur bowl blend, valve job, shortside turn, port pockets, the runner, chamber, polishing, roughing, it all makes up the comfuguration, and depends on ur application, like in drag racing, autocross, or what ever, and the focus is making reliable power too, but in these honda heads, u dont need to go over board, ur goal should be to reshape and refine, facotory head r not perfect but can use some touch ups
