$4k on car audio is easy. It's definitely not a cheap hobby once you get into it.
On my final system, I spent:
$1200 - in-dash dvd
$300 - front comps
$200 - rear comps
$400 - sub
$1000 - comps amp
$1000 - sub amp
$200 - cap
$200 - sound deadening
$150 - power wire/connectors
$60 - rcas
(and a bunch of other miscellaneous junk)
Thank God for Ebay. Retail on everything would've been over $8k, and that's just on parts alone.
