Sounds like the head gasket didn't seat right. White smoke is indictive of coolant burning, so you will need to pinpoint the way it gets into the combustion chamber and fix it. My bets are on the headgasket either being installed wrong, didn't seat properly (seems unlikely, as I have never had one seat improperly), or the head is warped and needs resurfacing for proper headgasket seal.
