Were you in a different area than where you usually check your voicemail from? Your voicemail is based in one physical location, and every once in a while if you try to call in to your voicemail while you're connecting to a different part of the network, stuff won't get routed properly. Usually it happens if you're sorta/kinda roaming even if you're not actually roaming...tough to explain unless you want me to barf up mass quantities of jargon.
Cingular has vast amounts of people who take care of this stuff all the time, so if something's actually wrong on their end and the tech support person actually got a proper trouble ticket in, they'll get to it eventually.
