this is an average myth. the most expensive shovel compells the buyer to hold onto it 4 times longer than the time it takes for it to break.

shovels get missused by professionals just like any other tool. the only thing i'd suggest putting money into is a hammer, mine is my fathers first hammer, which is now 30 years old and still in pretty good condition.

anything else we buy is pretty cheap. and tools seem to have a half life just like radioactive materials... as they get more and more worn the more and more you misuse them and the more damaged they get.
