the Park position on automatics isn't meant to be a replacement for the parking brake. if you never use the parking brake (and always just put it in Park), it's puts unnecessary stress on the transmission, and the Park feature can eventually fail. especially if you park on non-level ground. most owners manuals will tell you to always use the parking brake, but most people i know that drive auto don't care.
