I can borrow a car, but I have been spending too much money lately and this project set me back another $200 with the springs, keepers, head gasket, and valve to be spending another few hundred for a relatively useless p&p. Plus the head is junk...I have two sheared off cam holder bolts and the valve guides need to be replaced.
Why am I thinking a P&P would be good for your set-up? Is this upgrade over rated? I've always though that most useful gains are made from a good head, w/good flow and all the fixings along w/a reinforced block. But like you said too if the head is crap, you don't want to throw anymore money into than you have to. So yeah, good luck bro, hope you don't have any more probs.
The head is back on and the car runs. My question is are ITR valve springs supposed to be a decent amount louder than GSR valve springs? I adjusted the valve lash (which was so off, it wasn't funny) and it still has an annoying tick like an old POS Mercedes diesel. It idles great and drives well, but it is annoying unless it is normal.
There are really 4 things it can do:
A) Get louder because something is fucked in the head
B) Stay the same and bug me to death
C) Explode while driving, dropping a valve, etc.
D) Get quieter.
If it is A or C, I am going to pick up another head and transfer the valve springs and cams over. Otherwise, I will drive it until then.
A port and polish would probably pick up a few hp, but it isn't a cheap procedure and I don't really want to dip any more into my bank account for a head that could be a ticking time bomb.
