He's not a cheater, he's taking advantage of a loophole in Superman's powers.

Besides, in the comics they've since made Superman less of a totaly omnipotent type of guy who can fly around the earth so fast that he turns back time, to having certain limits to his (still considerable) powers. Not that I would know from reading the comics, I think I saw that on wikipedia when I was reading about the movie. h:
