maybe they should find a way to just disable the wireless internet connections inside lecture halls. it might be a little tricky to implement such a system, but i'm sure it's possible. then people can use the notebooks, but won't have internet access to play online games, surf, e-mail, etc.
:dunno: just an idea, since taking notes on a notebook computer should be no less distracting than taking notes by hand in a notebook made of paper. actually it should be a lot more efficient, reducing the time the student has to spend writing, allowing for neater, more robust (and searchable!) notes, and allowing for more time in between note taking to pay attention and engage in classrom debate. if a student wants to spend the time playing an offline game, then fine. i get that the professors want their students to do well, but forcing them to pay attention isn't going to help much. if all they do is play games during lecture, they obviously don't want to listen to begin with.
unless they just don't want people to take notes :screwy:
