I think its good to split the body up for the workout... when I started I used to do entire body over a 3 hour period a few times a week...
Then it went to a 2 Day workout routine... with a day in between.
I find the best that works for ME, might be different for you, is a 5 day cycle.
It goes:
1. Back and Bicep
2. Chest and Tricep
3. Legs
4. Shoulders, Calves and Abs
5. Rest
I throw in Cardio every now and then for a little bit, but it isnt my priority.
